Worcestershire Case Studies
Worcestershire County Hall, Worcester
- The county hall is heated with a 700kW fully automatic woodchip fuelled boiler.
- The system is the largest of it’s kind in the UK to be fuelled by forestry and woodland chips.
- The Compte Compact C70DHV boiler uses around 600 tonnes of woodfuel per year and delivers around 1 million kWh of renewable heat every year, which means that some 550 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions are avoided.
- System installation, operation, maintenance and fuel supplies are all provided by Ecoenergy, which sells heat to the Council through a ten-year energy service contract.

- Requires 50 tonnes of woodchip each year that is to be supplied by a local farmer co-operative, Warwickshire Renewable Fuels Ltd.
- Utilising energy crops for energy can also benefit the environment and Producer / Establishment grants are available through Defra's Energy Crops Scheme
- The boiler will use woodchip from short rotation willow coppice and is anticipated to save up to 5.4 tonnes of carbon every year
